Our Engineering Team is seeking a Staff System Engineer, Waveforms. You would be responsible for working on next generation self‑networking hand‑held radios or help create new modem technologies for the toughest communication problems in wireless MANET. A typical day might start with you working in your personal office doing system analysis, requirements management, and test plan development, then move into one of our many state‑of‑the‑art labs with your teammates to lead or do hands‑on system integration and test. Enhancing cohesiveness and maintaining team morale is a responsibility of all team members, as is the ambition for self‑improvement and talent development.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities The Lead shall be capable of hands‑on System Engineering and verification work and will often lead other engineers in execution of systems analysis, integration and test activities. The Lead manages the Waveform System Team (WST) within the Waveforms Group. The WST is responsible for the system and verification engineering work (including requirements management, integration and test, and verification) with a focus on waveform functionality and performance. The WST staff will consist of both System Engineers and Test Engineers. The Lead is responsible for ensuring that the WST staff members have the training and infrastructure to provide System Engineering services and execute accurate and efficient verification of TrellisWare waveforms.
Education and Work Experience Requirements
BS degree or higher from an accredited university.
5–10 years of experience in system engineering, test planning and execution.
Experience in managing direct reports.
Skills
Considered a subject matter expert in their field and looked to for technical decision making, brainstorming, troubleshooting and innovative problem solving.
Strong knowledge in the following concepts:
Systems Engineering best practices
Systems integration testing of wireless radios.
Understanding of physical layer components such as error‑correcting codes, modulation, power amplifiers, filters, etc.
Understanding of physical layer testing procedures such as testing for RF blockers, IP3, power spectral densities, packet error rate measurements, sensitivity measurements.
Understanding of fundamental MAC protocols such as TDMA, CSMA, etc.
Understanding of User Datagram Protocol (UDP) and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) networking.
Test automation
REST API programming, SQL programming and scripting.
Strong working knowledge of programming (C, Python, Shell).
Management approach that promotes employee growth and collaboration.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Physical Demands
Able to frequently sit, stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach within hand's length, stoop, kneel, and crouch, talk and hear.
Regularly required to sit for extended periods of time; frequently required to use office equipment such as PC, printer, telephone, etc.
Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Additional Requirements
U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency.

San Diego, California Pay Range: $115,000 - $185,000 USD
