Pre‑Clerkship Learning Director Inside Higher Ed – Augusta University, Augusta, GA

Job Summary The Medical College of Georgia seeks a Director of Pre‑Clerkship Learning to oversee early academic support for Years 1‑2 medical students. The Director will develop and deliver workshops, bootcamps, and individualized coaching; supervise the pre‑clerkship tutoring program; train faculty advisors; and collaborate with Academic Affairs to enhance student learning outcomes.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with faculty to identify students needing academic support early.

Meet individually with students to develop personalized learning, study, and remediation plans.

Document student interactions and maintain FERPA‑compliant records.

Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate peer tutors for the pre‑clerkship curriculum.

Design and deliver in‑person workshops, online modules, and bootcamps on study strategies, learning techniques, and Step 1 readiness.

Provide anticipatory guidance for students transitioning into medical school.

Partner with Academic Affairs to teach effective study strategies for NBME and Step 1 exams.

Train and support faculty advisors in best practices for advising pre‑clerkship learners.

Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of pre‑clerkship curriculum timelines and requirements.

Apply innovative, evidence‑based educational strategies and technologies to improve student learning.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution and at least three years of experience in medical education, curriculum coordination/management, or a similar health professions education role.

Alternatively: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five years of experience in the same areas.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate in Education, Educational Psychology, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field.

Strong science background supporting pre‑clerkship content areas (anatom, physiology, pharmacology, neurology).

Demonstrated expertise in learning strategies, remediation, and academic support for graduate/professional learners.

Experience supporting medical students in pre‑clerkship/basic sciences.

Familiarity with NBME and USMLE Step 1 preparation.

Evidence of scholarly work in teaching, learning, or medical education.

Leadership experience in academic support or program development.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Maintain confidentiality.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Shift / Salary / Benefits

Shift: Days, Monday‑Friday (may include outside regular business hours).

Pay Band: 12.

Salary: Minimum $62,300 – $72,200 annually (commensurate with qualifications).

Recruitment Period: 11/18/25 – Until Filled.

Benefits include health, dental, life insurance, optional retirement plan, earned vacation, sick leave, 13 paid holidays, and Tuition Assistance Program for employees with six months of successful service.

Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates must pass a Background Check review prior to starting.

Positions requiring trust duties or purchase card usage may need a credit check.

Motor vehicle reports required for positions that drive an Augusta University vehicle.

Faculty hires must provide proof of completed academic degree(s) and original transcript(s); foreign‑institution candidates must provide an educational/credential evaluation.
