Database Security Subject-Matter Expert/Technical Lead

Our client is seeking a Database Security Subject-Matter Expert / Technical Lead to join their team! This position is located in Bethesda, Maryland.
Responsibilities
Secure and monitor enterprise database systems including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and other common database platforms
Operate web and database vulnerability assessment tools, analyze results, and implement remediation strategies
Manage large-scale production databases, ensuring secure configuration, patching, and access controls
Integrate database security solutions with SIEM platforms: Splunk, to monitor and alert on security events
Develop and maintain database security policies, procedures, and documentation
Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability analysis, and remediation planning for database environments
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to implement enterprise-wide database security standards
Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance on secure database administration practices
Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity frameworks and industry best practices for database security
Desired Skills / Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field
5+ years of experience in database security, database administration, or information security
3+ years of experience securing diverse database platforms in enterprise or large-scale environments
Proven experience managing 1,000+ production databases in enterprise environments
Hands‑on experience with mixed database technologies in enterprise contexts
Expertise in vulnerability assessment tools and interpreting results to mitigate database risks
Experience integrating database security tools with SIEM platforms: Splunk
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills for identifying and addressing database security issues
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for conveying complex database security concepts to technical and executive audiences
Ability to develop policies, SOPs, and compliance documentation for secure database operations
