Overview The Director of Facilities oversees the management and maintenance of an organization's physical infrastructure, ensuring that facilities are safe, efficient, and well‑maintained. Responsibilities include strategic planning, budgeting, long‑range planning, contract negotiations, team coordination, construction oversight, emergency management, and more.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning – Develop short‑ and long‑term facilities plans for efficient and cost‑effective management.

Budget Management – Create and monitor facility budgets, including operational expenses, maintenance, and capital projects. Work with utility companies to maximize efficiency and reduce operating costs. Assist in procurement and bidding processes when necessary.

Maintenance and Repairs – Oversee all aspects of building maintenance, including preventative maintenance, repairs, and renovations. Continuously assess customer satisfaction and address shortcomings promptly.

Team Management – Oversee a team of facility managers, technicians, custodial staff, and contractors. Ensure cross‑coordination and cross‑training.

Contractor Management – Select, manage, and oversee contractors for facility projects. Represent the organization in new construction and renovation.

Safety and Security – Coordinate with safety managers to ensure compliance with safety regulations, implement procedures, oversee security systems, and manage inclement weather planning.

Emergency Response – Develop, maintain, and implement emergency response plans for fire, natural disasters, inclement weather, break‑ins, vandalism, and other potential emergencies.

Space Planning and Grounds Oversight – Manage space planning and utilization. Oversee lease negotiations, renewals, and management of leased properties with legal department coordination.

Staff Management – Assess staff skill sets, identify training opportunities, and perform administrative duties for direct reports.

Accreditation Support – Support Variety Care’s accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home and leadership to achieve Triple Aim goals.

Character and Leadership – Embody personal character, open communication, integrity, adaptability, and sound judgment. Lead the department and community. Result‑oriented problem solver who is responsible and accountable.

Other Duties – Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge

Project management experience.

Budgeting experience and strong math skills.

Familiarity with construction, architecture, and systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing.

Experience with requests for proposals and selection processes.

Management of a team of at least 10 staff members.

Experience overseeing multiple facilities and at least 100,000 square feet of facility space.

Experience working with software programs for HVAC and security system management.

Expertise in Excel, building/producing spreadsheets, charts.

Problem‑solving and organizational skills.

Valid Oklahoma driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

Availability on an on‑call basis to resolve building and ground issues or emergency management.

Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 5‑7 years facilities management experience plus a certification in facilities management or equivalent certification. Bachelor’s degrees in facilities management, construction management, engineering, or business management with a minimum of 5‑7 years experience preferred.

Professional certifications: Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) – HIGHLY PREFERRED; Certified Facility Manager (CFM); Facility Management Professional (FMP); Project Management Professional (PMP); Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

Essential Functions

Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.

Must be able to travel in state to facilities and sites a significant amount of time.

Must have excellent concentration ability.
