The Dean of the College of Liberal Arts provides visionary and strategic leadership to a broad and vibrant academic community dedicated to teaching, research, creative expression, and public engagement. The dean oversees 18 academic departments and programs, working closely with faculty, students, and university leadership to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, enhance academic excellence, and champion the liberal arts as a cornerstone of UAF’s mission. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of liberal arts education in Alaska and to promote the arts, humanities, and social sciences as vital forces in understanding and improving the human experience.

The successful candidate will be an experienced academic leader with a record of excellence in higher education administration, teaching, and scholarship. They will demonstrate strong skills in strategic planning, faculty and program development, budget management, and effective communication. The ability to collaborate across disciplines, engage with community and institutional partners, and guide the college through innovation and change will be key to success in this role.

Minimum Qualifications

A terminal degree in a liberal arts discipline

Eligibility for, at minimum, the rank of Associate Professor

Successful leadership experience and a record of working collaboratively with faculty, staff and students

Position Details This is a full‑time, Executive Management, exempt staff position complete with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
