Sr Sales Engineer for Tooling - Machine Tool Industry
Location:
Greater Chicago area (Northwest Chicago or near Schaumburg, Illinois)
Job Summary:
Kennametal is seeking a Sr. Sales Engineer to support our partnerships with Machine Tool Builders to grow our metal cutting business in the Northcentral United States including focus in Chicago IL, Wisconsin and Minnesota. This technical sales role provides the ability to see opportunity in challenges and creates solutions that provide a positive impact for our machine tool customers. The candidate will need to possess the ability to gain the trust and respect of customers by not only establishing the relationship, but by listening to their challenges, solving technical issues, and following through on commitments in a timely manner. This is a field sales role that is based in a home‑office with required travel approximately 25‑50%.
Responsibilities
Establish relationships with new and existing Kennametal machine tool customers to provide solutions
Manage and coordinate the execution of large customer projects with engineering and operations to exceed customer expectations
Meet sales revenue goals of growth and profitability
Promote and implement both custom and standard Kennametal Metal Cutting solutions
Advocate for Kennametal to the customer, advocate for the customer to Kennametal
Collaborate across multiple business segments
Grow focus products through initiative activities
Develop and maintain customer associated data to provide consultative partnership (CRM)
Execute growth initiative projects
Travel approximately 25%‑50%
Typical Education or Equivalent Work Experience
6+ years’ experience in machining/metal cutting industry
Technical training in machining and programming
Associate or Bachelor in Engineering or related field or equivalent level of industry experience
Strong technical understanding of metal cutting tooling
Practical experience interpreting technical drawings and specifications
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Working cross‑functionally with customers, engineering, and manufacturing locations
Salary & Benefits Salary Range:
$90,000 - $115,000 annually base salary plus bonus with target of 30% of base salary.
401(k) with match up to 6%
Company Vehicle to facilitate travel requirements
