Location: Employee must be located in the greater Chicago area. Preferred location would be Northwest Chicago in or near Schaumburg, Illinois.

Job Summary Kennametal is seeking a Sr. Sales Engineer to support partnerships with Machine Tool Builders and grow our metal cutting business in the Northcentral United States, with a focus on Chicago, IL, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. This field sales role is based in a home office and requires approximately 25–50% travel to meet customer and financial goals. Responsibilities include building trust, listening to customer challenges, solving technical issues, and following through on commitments.
Key Job Responsibilities
Establish relationships with new and existing Kennametal machine tool customers to provide solutions.
Manage and coordinate the execution of large customer projects with engineering and operations to exceed expectations.
Meet sales revenue goals of growth and profitability.
Promote and implement both custom and standard Kennametal Metal Cutting solutions.
Advocate for Kennametal to the customer and for the customer to Kennametal.
Collaborate across multiple business segments.
Grow focus products through initiative activities.
Develop and maintain customer data to provide consultative partnership (CRM).
Execute growth initiative projects.
Travel approximately 25%–50%.
Typical Education or Equivalent Work Experience
6+ years’ experience in machining/metal cutting industry.
Technical training in machining and programming.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Engineering or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
Strong technical understanding of metal cutting tooling.
Practical experience interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
CAD/CAM experience.
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Experience working cross‑functionally with customers, engineering, and manufacturing locations.
Salary Range $90,000 – $115,000 annually base salary plus bonus with target of 30% of base salary.
