Release Engineer - Job Description

Our Engineering & Innovation group is looking for a Release Engineer to join an international team of developers in the SUSE Multi-Linux Manager product team. SUSE Multi-Linux Manager is an open-source solution for managing software‑defined infrastructures at scale, from bare‑metal Linux systems to containers.

Responsibilities
Be a great person to work with: promote teamwork, communicate and coordinate in the team as well as across teams
Release our software in a timely manner with the expected quality, handling complex build environments and product setups
Understand the role of dependencies and life cycle implications in maintaining an open source project
Communicate and coordinate with stakeholders like Development, QA, Maintenance and Product Management teams and more
Prepare and maintain a calendar of upcoming releases throughout the year
Required Skills
Proven track record experience in release engineering and automation
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, TravisCI, GitHub Actions)
Good knowledge of a scripting language (like bash or Python)
Advanced knowledge of Git
Familiarity with the RPM package format and specfiles
Experience with building containers (Docker, Podman or Kubernetes)
Comfortable with working on GNU/Linux based distributions
Experience with a system configuration management (e.g. SaltStack, Ansible, Puppet)
Solid English language skills to communicate successfully in a professional environment, and present ideas to different audiences
Nice to Have
Experience in community management for an open source project
Experience with automated packaging systems such as Open Build Service
Experience managing or packaging for other GNU/Linux distributions (e.g. Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux)
Advanced knowledge of public clouds (preferably AWS or Azure)
