Job Summary This position supervises craft employees assigned to PennDOT projects. It is an hourly, non‑exempt role that works under direct and indirect supervision.
Essential Functions
Work with the Project Superintendent to develop and maintain a complete understanding of the plans and specifications for the assigned project.
Work with the Project Superintendent to develop a plan that meets or exceeds the specifications, safety requirements, and production paces.
Supervise assigned crew members to ensure tasks are safely and productively completed on time with a high‑quality finished product.
Prioritize, schedule, and communicate plans and tasks to crew members, customers, and the inspecting agency.
Plan work schedule, determine manpower levels, material quantities, trucking and equipment requirements, and traffic control needs.
Monitor work performance and productivity of crew members to ensure project rules, procedures, and safety requirements are maintained.
Complete quantity reports daily with diary notes as required.
Complete employee time reports to accurately reflect hours worked and phases on.
Advise superintendents and/or project management of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc.; assist in resolving such problems as required.
Maintain positive relationships with other departments, as required, to support the construction schedule.
Promote positive public relations and image.
Ensure a safe working environment.
Exercise proper care, maintenance, and operation of company equipment.
Frequently work more than 40 hours per week, including non‑traditional hours such as night shifts, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays.
Perform additional assignments per the supervisor's direction.
Knowledge Of
Safety regulations, project scheduling, cost control, project plans, specifications, special provisions, and phases needed to complete the project.
Equipment and tools needed for the project.
Materials required for the project.
Haul time to the job to efficiently plan trucking requirements.
Communication hand signals.
Ability To
Learn, follow, and enforce GOH company policies and procedures.
Plan and coordinate operations.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of crew members.
Create construction plans to minimize traffic disruptions and maximize safety for employees and the traveling public.
Cross‑train crew members on all aspects of tasks related to particular construction disciplines.
Work with indirect supervision.
Utilize heavy job field application as required.
Use a computer and related office equipment.
Qualifications
Must have a valid driver’s license for the state in which you reside with an acceptable driving record per company minimum standards.
Must have basic math skills.
Must successfully complete PennDOT Flagger Training Course.
Must be CPR and first aid trained.
Must obtain and maintain all mandatory training.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
Minimum 3 years of construction experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Prefer previous supervisory experience.
