When directed by supervisor, this hourly, non‑exempt position will supervise craft employees assigned to PennDOT projects, working under direct and indirect supervision.
Job Summary This role involves planning, scheduling, supervising crews, and ensuring that construction work meets safety, quality, and production standards for PennDOT projects.
Essential Functions
Work with the Project Superintendent to develop and maintain a thorough understanding of plans and specifications for assigned projects.
Develop a plan to meet or exceed specifications, safety requirements, and production paces.
Supervise assigned crew members, ensuring tasks are completed safely and productively in a timely manner with high quality.
Prioritize, schedule, and communicate plans and tasks to crew members, customers, and inspecting agencies.
Plan work schedules, determining manpower levels, material quantities, trucking and equipment requirements, and traffic control needs.
Monitor work performance and productivity of crew members to ensure project rules, procedures, and safety requirements are maintained.
Complete quantity reports daily with diary notes as required.
Submit employee time reports accurately reflecting hours worked and phases on.
Advise superintendents and/or project management of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc.; assist in resolving such problems.
Maintain positive relationships with other departments to support the construction schedule.
Promote positive public relations and image.
Ensure a safe working environment.
Exercise proper care, maintenance, and operation of company equipment.
Frequently work more than 40 hours per week, including night shifts, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays.
Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Knowledge Of
Safety regulations, project scheduling, cost control, project plans, specifications, special provisions, and project phases.
Equipment and tools needed for the project.
Materials required for the project.
Haul time to the job to efficiently plan trucking requirements.
Communication hand signals.
Ability To
Learn, follow, and enforce company policies and procedures.
Plan and coordinate operations.
Supervise and evaluate performance of crew members.
Create construction plans to minimize traffic disruptions and maximize safety for employees and the traveling public.
Cross‑train crew members on tasks related to their construction discipline.
Work with indirect supervision.
Utilize heavy‑job field application as required.
Use a computer and related office equipment.
Qualifications
Valid driver’s license for the state of residence with an acceptable driving record as per company standards.
Basic math skills.
Successful completion of PennDOT Flagger Training Course.
CPR and first aid trained.
Obtain and maintain all mandatory training.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
Minimum 3 years of construction experience; preferred a combination of education and experience.
Prefer previous supervisory experience.
