Job Summary Our client, a well-established engineering and architectural consulting firm specializing in building envelopes (roofs, walls, windows, waterproofing, and pavements), is seeking an

Architectural AutoCAD Drafter

with a strong interest in field work.

This position is ideal for someone who wants to go beyond the CAD desk and grow into a field-based project management role. The day‑to‑day will involve site inspections, client interaction, and technical design support. The firm offers a flexible work‑from‑home setup, though candidates must attend a weekly in‑office meeting and perform frequent field visits throughout the Chicagoland area, with occasional travel to Ottawa and Green Bay.

Responsibilities

Produce technical drawings and documentation using AutoCAD and Revit

Perform field investigations and construction site inspections (outdoor work required, PPE provided)

Support design and reporting for building envelope projects including curtainwalls, windows, and roofs

Communicate with project teams, clients, and consultants — must be a strong people person

Act as a field liaison and technical resource, communicating with clients, contractors, and internal teams

Collaborate closely with engineers and architects to ensure accurate and timely project delivery

Take on a client‑facing role in the field and contribute to project oversight

Requirements

Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit

Must complete a CAD test (provided by the client) before first interview

Valid driver's license and personal vehicle (monthly reimbursement provided)

Comfortable working outdoors year‑round

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to represent the firm in the field

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with curtainwall/window systems

Background in trade school, construction, or hands‑on fieldwork

Desire to grow into a field/project management role

Work Setup & Logistics Hybrid — Monday to Friday, standard business hours, with at least three days per week in the office.

Projects mostly in the Chicagoland area, with occasional travel to Ottawa, IL and Green Bay, WI.

Heavy field work: inspections, investigations, and site visits are a core part of the role.

Must have own car – monthly reimbursement for travel provided.

All necessary PPE is supplied by the client.
