As Chief Engineer, you will lead front‑line teams that support the operations of some of the world’s most powerful data centers, maintaining and operating critical infrastructure systems to ensure uptime and resilience.

Key Job Responsibilities

Act as the primary escalation point for all facilities‑related issues; oversee routine and emergency services for critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.

Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of equipment failures within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).

Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians; work with Facility Managers to build team culture.

Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.

Assist in the build‑out of new facilities and projects to increase existing facility efficiency.

Respond to out‑of‑hours emergency calls and perform routine maintenance as required.

Communicate complex technical information to non‑technical audiences.

Coordinate projects with IT managers and other business leaders to manage capacity and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.

Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff.

Establish building performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance.

Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other basic administrative tools to perform day‑to‑day tasks.

Physical Requirements

Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds independently.

Participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds.

Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder.

Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push and pull objects into position.

Work in an environment requiring provided ear protection.

Day in the Life This role is Amazon’s front line for electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. You maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission‑critical data center facility equipment—including diesel generators, 3‑phase electrical systems (switchgear, UPS, PDUs, wet‑cell batteries), CRAHU units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers, pumps, motors, fire/life safety equipment, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment. You direct, train, and support technicians, implement and execute site‑specific training exercises, manage projects from conception to completion, and collaborate with engineering, automation, processing, and finance teams locally and globally.

Basic Qualifications

3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience.

3+ years of data center or mission‑critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military facility, public safety facility).

Technical (Military/Trade School) training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical).

Preferred Qualifications

4+ years of data center engineering experience.

Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree.

Experience leading teams.

Compensation ranges by geographic market: $83,100/year to $185,000/year, depending on location. Total compensation may include equity, sign‑on payments, and other benefits.
