What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a Staff Technical Program Manager to join our Energy, New Product Introduction (NPI) team. Items critical to the success of the NPI Technical Program Manager include supporting Engineering prototype A and B build phases, which involve operations support and coordination, managing validation trial requests, and ramp planning. The role also entails leading C and D build phases, encompassing core team leadership, program scheduling, build planning, materials coordination, build execution, allocation management, and issue tracking. Additionally, the NPI Technical Program Manager is responsible for leading and mentoring their direct reports, helping them grow both personally and professionally. Another key responsibility is leading changes to sustaining products with minimal interruption to production flow. Success in this role requires understanding available resources and allocating them appropriately, recognizing how decisions in one area impact other departments and operational goals, tracking details and managing actions to closure, and ensuring cross-functional team adherence to NPI processes and procedures.
This role will be based out of the Greater Houston Area (TX) and will require 90% travel to the Bay Area (CA) to support early builds and validation support for the next 6-12 months.
What You’ll Do
Manage the cross functional team to ensure successful launches of new products
Lead build core team meetings to coordinate all aspects of prototype builds, set build plans and evaluate constraints
Lead, guide, and mentor junior team members
Drive material readiness with supply chain and material planning teams
Provide direction to project engineers for priorities and trial requirements
Own product roadmaps
Perform cost analyses to reduce product cost and manage inventory
Aid in the development and roll-out of NPI structure and processes
Coordinate with process and quality engineers to support new product roll outs
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
Evidence of exceptional ability managing multiple complex programs/projects simultaneously
Minimum of 7+ yrs. experience in mix of Engineering and Project Management fields
Experience in production/manufacturing environment (semi-automated preferred)
Executive level communication skills, both verbal and written to both technical and non-technical team members
Ability to work cross-functionally and manage large teams
Works well under pressure and can manage multiple priorities simultaneously
