SCIPP is one of only 12 national NOAA Regional Integrated Science and Assessment Research Programs nationally that works with Stakeholders to reduce vulnerability to weather and climate extremes. SCIPP has a complex high‐performance computing infrastructure based on Unix OS variants.Job Responsibilities:45% - Work will include research-driven applications in programming to acquire and analyze environmental data sets (daily and hourly), develop stakeholder-driven graphical and tabular products (e.g., SURGDAT), and design user interfaces to produce enhanced understanding of complex environmental information.45% - Develop and maintain operational websites for SCIPP. Additionally, will produce new tools to visualize complex weather/climate data.5% - The work will also involve supporting various research projects through the development of application, programs, and geographic decision support tools for SCIPP and LSU climatologists5% - Other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications
Education Level: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or physical sciences
Years of Experience:
2 years of scientific programming experience on UNIX, Linux, Mac OS X platforms.Degree substitute: LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply— a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.Preferred Qualifications
Education Level: Master's Computer Science (Programming) or equivalent (computer-based).
