Highway & Roads Market Sector Director Primary Responsibilities Market Sector Directors (MSD) are part of HDR's matrix management structure that drive our business. The HDR Highway & Roads (H&R) market sector is the largest in the company, representing nearly $1B in annual revenue globally. It includes clients owning and operating highways, toll roads, city, town, and local roads, and bridge structures.

The primary professional services in this sector include: bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and tolling services.

This role requires understanding of H&R clients, their funding, revenue streams, and governmental structures at various levels. Responsibilities are divided into:

Market leadership and business development (70%)

Staff development (20%)

Support to Operations (10%)

The Market Sector Director sets strategic vision, supports growth initiatives, develops staff, and maintains regular communication with leadership to implement strategic growth and operational plans. The role involves engagement with US and international clients, expanding HDR’s presence globally, and leading business development efforts to grow market share and strengthen client relationships.

Responsibilities include:

Creating and implementing strategic vision for the sector

Serving as a client manager for key clients

Leading project pursuits and marketing efforts

Participating in industry associations and leadership roles

Developing strategic partnerships and industry relationships

Supporting staff development and recruitment

Monitoring market performance and supporting project delivery

Qualifications Preferred:

Minimum 20 years in highway/bridge planning or engineering, PE license, leadership in industry associations.

Required:

Bachelor's in Engineering or related, at least 12 years of industry experience with leadership, strong communication, client management, business skills, and a commitment to HDR’s culture.
