Job Title
Senior Structural Estimator
Reports To Estimating Manager
Summary The Senior Estimator - Quality Assurance is primarily responsible for reviewing and validating cost estimates prepared by junior estimators to ensure accuracy, compliance, and competitiveness. This role involves critical analysis, risk assessment, and continuous improvement of estimating processes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct detailed reviews of estimates generated by junior estimators, ensuring they meet company standards and are compliant with project specifications.
Provide feedback and guidance to junior staff to correct and improve their estimation techniques and adherence to best practices.
Collaborate with various departments such as Production, Planning, and Business Units to refine estimates and enhance bid proposals.
Implement quality assurance checks to improve the integrity and accuracy of estimates.
Analyze risks associated with project estimates and develop strategies to mitigate potential impacts.
Review estimates upon request from senior management or the Estimating Manager to identify cost reductions that support best and final offers or critical proposals.
Maintain accurate records and provide regular reports on estimation accuracy and process improvements to department manager and senior management.
Supervisory Responsibility No formal supervisory responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
In-depth knowledge of cost estimation techniques and ship repair standard practices.
High proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Exceptional analytical and organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously with high accuracy under tight deadlines.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior staff and influence across departments.
Effective communication skills, essential for teamwork and cross‑functional collaboration.
Skilled in risk analysis and the development of effective mitigation strategies.
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations to ensure compliance in all estimating practices.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions under pressure.
Education and Experience
May require a bachelor's degree or 8 years of ship repair experience.
Working Conditions
Most work performed in an office environment under, fast‑paced conditions; frequently requires overtime.
May require some travel.
Minimal exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, heights.
