Job Overview Job Title:

Environmental, Safety, & Health (ESH) Technician

Reports To:

Risk/ESH Manager and Regional ESH Supervisor (directly) and Project Manager (at job-sites)

Pay Range:

$24.00-$30.00 hourly, DOE

Summary:

Responsible for all aspects of safety and environmental requirements required by IMIA during the accomplishment of work.

Responsibilities

Conduct and document safety inspections

Communicate safety and environmental requirements to individuals and employee groups

Formulate, track and conduct routine project safety and environmental training

Cite dangerous areas/operations and report to onsite and offsite management

Conduct incident investigations and determine root causes of discrepancies

Recommend corrective procedures and determine safety related trends

Ensure safety equipment supply and availability is provided

Maintain knowledge of safety and environmental policies and regulations

Follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the job functions

Plan and accomplish goals using experience and judgment

Report daily to the IMIA Project Manager assigned to the project

Exert independent judgment in primary job function

Qualifications Education Required:

High school graduate. Capable of taking written and verbal directions. Ability to read and write with understanding. Minimum computer experience required (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat). Oral communication effective.

Experience Required:

Formal or informal on-the-job training and 2 years experience in Shipbuilding/Ship Repair Industry or Maritime Safety Industry. Preference for candidates with Marine Coating and Hot Work experience. Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local regulations within the marine industry. Entry level position, under guidance of senior ESH Technician, must demonstrate ability to quickly and accurately absorb and retain information and experience imparted.

Skills Required:

Read and interpret documents relevant to customer, company, local, state and federal safety & environmental regulations (contract specifications, safety & environmental rules, procedures). Work cooperatively with other employees and facility owner/customer personnel. Carry out instructions furnished in oral, written, or diagram form.

Physical Requirements Regularly walk; frequently stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, crawl; occasionally sit; use hands to reach, feel, grip, handle; regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds; use vision to see up close, distance, peripherally, depth perception; enter production areas requiring respirators, confined space entry, working from heights.

Working Conditions Most work performed onboard a ship, in a dry dock or shipyard under fast-paced conditions; frequently requiring overtime. Consistent exposure to outdoor elements, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals and dusty conditions.
