About the Role KPFF Special Projects Division is growing and looking for an ambitious and initiative‑driven Senior Civil Transportation Engineer to strengthen our dynamic team in Seattle or Tacoma, WA. You will be at the heart of downtown, working on a diverse range of complex roadway and transportation improvements on design‑build projects. As a key member, you'll refine your existing expertise in transportation engineering, while diving deep into design, project management, and delivering unparalleled client service.

What you’ll be doing Civil Design and Development

Apply your engineering expertise to diverse projects, collaborating with teams to devise innovative solutions drawing on best practices in linear utility projects, street improvements, design/build initiatives, and transportation infrastructure.

Contribute to projects involving waterfront developments and industrial developments, leveraging your skills to drive successful outcomes in these specialized areas.

Learn to assess risks and develop mitigation strategies to contribute to project success.

Gain experience in ensuring regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, including understanding regulations and permitting requirements.

Enhance your skills in identifying and overcoming challenges through innovative problem‑solving approaches, utilizing both traditional and modern engineering techniques.

Project Leadership

Manage project tasks, ensuring efficient coordination of timelines, budgets, and resources to achieve successful project outcomes.

Conduct site visits and inspections as necessary to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

Mentor team members to support their professional growth and development.

Client Engagement and Exceptional Service

Foster strong client relationships by actively listening to client needs, providing clear communication, and delivering customized solutions that align with their objectives.

Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering expert guidance and proactive support throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Minimum of 10 years of civil design experience with a PE in the State of Washington or ability to obtain reciprocity. Internship experience is appreciated but does not count towards the three‑year minimum requirement.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.

Advanced MicroStation, InRoads, and OpenRoads design experience is required.

ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other engineering design software proficiency is a plus.

Working knowledge of AASHTO M Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, 7th Edition.

Working knowledge of USDOT/FHWA MUTCD for Streets and Highways, 2009 Edition.

Working knowledge of AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, 4th Edition.

Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and techniques.

Experience and ability to prepare roadway/transportation design documents and specifications.

Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, and Design Manual.

Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proven capability to work dynamically and effectively in a collaborative environment.

Demonstrated enthusiasm for developing design and project management skills.

Commitment to delivering exceptional client service and exceeding expectations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.

Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.

Occasionally visiting project locations and performing field inspections which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.

Traveling to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected range for a qualified candidate with 10+ years of experience is $120,000–$150,000. Additionally, we offer performance‑based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each reporting center. During the interview process, we will provide detailed information and address any questions about the overall compensation package and benefits.
