Opportunity As a key member of the executive leadership team, the Head of Finance and Strategy reports to the CEO and assumes a crucial role in the overall financial and strategic management of the company. This position is responsible for directing Munich Re Specialty’s North America financial functions—including planning, implementing, reporting, managing, analyzing and controlling all financial-related activities—and shaping long‑term business strategy to drive growth and profitability.
Responsibilities
Finance:
Lead and set direction for financial management, planning, analysis, budgeting, and reporting in line with MR Group standards.
Develop, monitor, and assess short- and long-term financial plans and budgets, reporting results to senior management.
Manage financial forecasting, budget consolidation and reporting to the Company.
Advise executive management on financial implications of business activities, recommend enhancements, and identify expense efficiencies.
Evaluate impact of long-range planning and strategy development.
Ensure effective internal controls and compliance with local regulatory laws and financial reporting rules.
Leverage technology to maintain an effective back‑office, reduce internal complexities, and enable business-focused solutions.
Support and drive Munich Re Group’s talent-related goals to create a high-performance, diverse workforce.
Strategic Planning:
Provide expert guidance for developing, communicating, and executing the company’s strategic plan.
Create and socialize strategic roadmap and product plan addressing critical business, technology and market needs.
Build thought leadership, analysis, and execution capability for market trends, emerging products, and new business models.
Develop business cases for strategic priorities and capital expenditures; author strategy white papers.
Lead initiatives focused on customer experience, platform feature development, and business process automation.
Support board governance, prepare presentations, and manage external/internal communications.
Identify opportunities, lead negotiations and execute strategic alliances to enhance product/service offerings.
Oversee M&A projects to assess strategic fit.
Represent MRSNA interests in external forums and events.
Manage risks associated with strategic initiatives, ensuring compliance with governance, regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
15+ years of financial management experience.
Significant expertise in consulting and leading strategic planning within a commercial specialty insurance market.
5+ years of people management experience.
CPA designation.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS and statutory accounting practices.
Excellent financial and business analytical skills.
Strategic mindset and understanding of the US P&C insurance market.
Visionary thinking to anticipate future industry developments.
Proven leadership, innovative decision-making, and execution skills.
Experience leading target operating model initiatives with positive business results.
Deep knowledge of insurance platforms, automation technologies, and end‑to‑end underwriting and claims processes.
Expertise in translating business objectives into operating models, product vision, and roadmaps.
Strong analytical problem‑solving and root‑cause determination.
Relationship management and presentation skills across stakeholder groups.
Compensation & Benefits Base salary range: $294,200 – $490,300 (adjusted by location). Eligible for company bonus based on a percentage of eligible pay. Benefits include health, vision, dental, life, disability, 401(k) match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays, paid time off, tuition assistance, wellness programs, and more.
