What You’ll Do
Drive strategic planning and portfolio management for key initiatives to design, build, and deliver scalable technology solutions.
Oversee workforce planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Collaborate with UX, Research, Data Science, Product Managers, and Architects to deliver integrated solutions.
Ensure engineering excellence through best practices like test-driven development, CI/CD, and automation.
Champion AI-driven innovation for client onboarding, predictive modeling, and natural language processing.***Note: Remote internal candidates are encouraged to apply.*****Principal Duties and Responsibilities*** Lead Agile Teams: Oversee multiple engineering teams to build, enhance, and support technology solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes.* Strategic Planning: Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to define technology roadmaps, portfolio priorities, and architectural considerations.* Portfolio Management: Define and manage a portfolio of change initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives and resource availability.* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with UX, Research, Data Science, Product Managers, and Architects to deliver integrated solutions.* Engineering Excellence: Ensure teams apply best practices in software engineering, including test-driven development, continuous integration, automation, and adherence to Agile principles.* People Leadership: Develop and coach a high-performing team of Business Analysts and Software Engineers; manage budgeting, resource planning, and performance.* Innovation & AI Strategy: Drive initiatives for AI-enabled client onboarding, predictive modeling, and natural language processing to improve customer experience.* Operational Oversight: Monitor KPIs and success factors to improve organizational performance and delivery speed.**Job Specifications*** Bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant business experience* 8+ years of experience in IT or software engineering background.* Prior people management experience required.* Demonstrates leadership in executing IT plans successfully that enable technical or business capabilities and address technology or business priorities* Strong understanding of Agile/Lean leadership principles* Familiarity with technical or related platforms such as Salesforce, MuleSoft, Rally.* Insurance industry knowledge (i.e., claims processing) is a plus* Exhibits courage by taking smart risks and encouraging others to do so; empowers innovative approaches by motivating others to be proactive and resourceful* Has proven and demonstrated knowledge and skills in one or more technologies or industries* Able to apply broad business and technology understanding of internal and external trends and capabilities, to ensure successful implementation of IT plans.* Able to communicate a compelling vision and need for change that generates excitement, enthusiasm, and commitment to the process* Demonstrates strategic and critical thinking capability* Interacts with others, internally and externally, in a way that gives them confidence in their intentions and those of the organization* Understands the business case for each deliverable undertaken and works with their manager and product owner to help ensure benefits are realized* Has strong planning, communication and presentation skills, and the capability to listen and influence#LI-AD1~IN1Our company is built on helping individuals and families, and this starts with our employees. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.$109,100.00-$224,000.00Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
