Job Overview The Radiation Therapist delivers ionizing radiation as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist to restore and enhance the quality of life, eradicate or diminish disease, and maintain health. The position involves performing simulations, scheduling patient treatments, and completing associated billing. The therapist will be hired for satellite radiation oncology locations and may be asked to assist at any satellite site as needed.
Essential Duties
Provides Radiation Therapy services including CT Simulation and treatment delivery, contributing as an essential member of the Radiation Oncology treatment team.
Performs effectively in emergency situations involving patient or equipment issues.
Participates in the therapeutic team approach to provide optimal treatment and adheres to proper procedures.
Resolves problems, disputes, and complaints in a timely manner, informing management of any issues.
Utilizes ARIA and all paperless systems properly and efficiently.
Facilitates continuity of care through effective communication with team members.
Coordinates and prioritizes multiple patient needs and departmental requests.
Assesses patient responses to treatment and refers for management when needed.
Provides age-appropriate care considering principles of growth and development.
Maintains professional ethics and adheres to institutional policies and procedures.
Maintains current state/national certifications in Radiation Therapy.
Ensures confidentiality of medical records and applies radiation protection principles.
Completes annual clinical competencies and performs quality assurance checks.
Monitors daily schedules, makes adjustments, and communicates effectively with the team.
Participates in cross-training and other departmental activities.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology program; new graduates considered.
Knowledge of dosimetry, MLC, CT Simulation, and IMRT.
Strong technical skills and work ethic.
Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
One year of radiation therapy experience.
Experience with Varian machines, especially Varian Truebeam.
Experience with Varian EMR.
Bilingual abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Certified Radiologic Technologist (CA DPH).
ARRT Radiation Therapy certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City), or obtain within 30 days of hire if applicable.
Additional Details The hourly rate range is $53.00 - $87.45. USC considers various factors when extending employment offers, including experience, education, skills, and legal considerations.
