Description Miriams Kitchen works to end chronic homelessness in Washington, DC. We advocate for permanent supportive housing as a long-term solution, while meeting short-term needs by providing healthy meals and high-quality social services to individuals who are chronically homeless.
About The Position The Social Services Program helps guests connect to needed services and care, focusing on securing and maintaining housing with support from Miriams Kitchen and community providers. The goal is to help guests be as healthy as possible and pursue their goals.
Services are provided in our dining room alongside daily meals. Case managers invite guests to receive social services at Miriams Kitchen or through community providers, including mental health, medical, substance abuse, shelter, housing, employment, and immediate needs like clothing and toiletries. We foster an atmosphere of hospitality to build relationships with vulnerable individuals facing barriers such as mental illness or substance abuse.
The Senior Clinical Case Manager will deliver direct services to homeless individuals, supervise Case Managers and interns, improve program performance, and collaborate with other providers and policymakers. The schedule offers flexibility with shifts in the Morning Program (6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.), Evening Program (10 a.m. - 6 p.m.), or a combination.
Essential Functions
Act as liaison with Schools of Social Work and volunteer programs, including screening, onboarding, training, and supervising interns and volunteers.
Serve as a clinical resource for the team and provide trainings.
Oversee data collection and management, ensure timely data entry, and coordinate reporting and data analysis.
Lead development and implementation of policies and procedures for the Social Services program.
Oversee onboarding and training for new staff.
Lead case management during busy service hours, coordinating services for over 200 guests per meal and responding to crises.
Build trusting relationships with guests, facilitate referrals, and support their connection to services.
Promote a culture of dignity, respect, and safety for guests.
Supervise weekly meetings with Case Managers and interns, fostering a positive work environment.
Participate in leadership to evaluate and improve programs, and identify opportunities for expansion.
Support volunteer activities.
Nonessential Functions
Identify advocacy priorities and lead efforts to end homelessness.
Participate in provider groups, coalitions, and policy work.
Requirements Competencies and Key Actions
Supervision and program management experience.
Knowledge of community resources in DC for homeless individuals.
Ability to work effectively with guests and team members from diverse backgrounds.
Strong communication and cultural competence skills.
Commitment to ending chronic homelessness and understanding systemic causes.
Proficiency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
Qualifications
At least two years of experience working with homeless populations or related issues.
Master of Social Work with LICSW or LGSW licensure and at least one year post-licensure experience.
Physical/Mental Demands Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and lift objects up to 25 pounds. Effective communication in English is required.
Travel Demands Occasional local travel between Miriam's Kitchen and partner sites may be required.
