The Accounting Manager is a hands‑on leader responsible for managing all day‑to‑day accounting and financial operations for a fast‑growing services organization. The role oversees general accounting, project financials, billing, revenue recognition, budgeting, and reporting, while working closely with the CEO and leadership team to ensure accurate financial insight and strong controls.
Accounting Operations
Own the full accounting cycle, including GL management, AP/AR, payroll accounting, expense management, and month‑end close.
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and management reports.
Maintain the company’s chart of accounts and ensure compliance with GAAP.
Manage bank reconciliations, credit cards, cash flow reporting, and treasury tasks.
Project‑Based Financial Management
Oversee project accounting in Unanet: revenue, labor cost, expenses, and margin reporting.
Ensure accurate revenue recognition for T&M, fixed‑fee, and milestone projects.
Partner with project managers to monitor project budgets, burn rates, and forecasts.
Provide real‑time financial insights to support delivery excellence and decision‑making.
Billing & Revenue Recognition
Supervise all client billing processes: T&M invoices, fixed‑price billing, milestone billing, and retainers.
Ensure billing aligns with contracts, SOWs, and project structures.
Review WIP, backlog, and deferred revenue to ensure accurate reporting.
ERP Management
Administer and optimize Unanet for accounting and project reporting.
Ensure timesheets, expenses, and project data flow cleanly into financial statements.
Drive process improvements and automation through Unanet configuration and reporting tools.
Track departmental and company‑wide KPIs, including utilization, margin, and pipeline‑to‑revenue insights.
Internal Controls & Compliance
Establish and maintain internal controls appropriate for a fast‑growing services company.
Prepare for audits and maintain compliance with accounting standards.
Document financial processes and drive efficiency across workflows.
Cross‑Functional Partnerships
Work closely with Project Management, Sales, Operations, and HR to support growth.
Translate financial results into actionable business insights for leadership.
Serve as the primary finance partner for executives and department heads.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5–8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience; service‑industry or project‑based experience strongly preferred.
Proficiency with Unanet ERP or another project‑based ERP (e.g., Deltek, Dynamics 365, JAMIS).
Strong understanding of revenue recognition in a services environment.
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Hands‑on approach with the ability to build processes as the company grows.
Experience in small or mid‑size high‑growth companies is a plus.
