Mortgage Field Services Inspector at FAR Inspections
FAR Inspections is looking for highly motivated individuals to perform residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders. Independent contractors earn predictable full‑time or supplemental income and enjoy a flexible schedule. While experience with mortgage field inspections is not required, an ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines is crucial.
Most inspections are exterior only. About 10% require interior photos after the property has gone vacant.
What is an Occupancy Verification?
To verify property occupancy.
To report on the general condition of the property using a mobile application.
Responsibilities
Most common type of inspection should only take 5–6 minutes.
Complete the inspection within 4 days after it is assigned.
Report general property conditions and make a determination of occupancy based on industry standards.
Take 9+ photos of the property with brief comments.
Complete a short form in an app.
Require spending extended periods of time driving while making numerous stops during the day in the assigned territory.
Requirements
Computer with an internet connection.
Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage is a plus as you will be paying for your own gas).
Smartphone (Android or iPhone).
Printer.
Pass a standard background check using a valid driver’s license.
Pay and Hours This is a 1099 position. Each inspection has a flat rate. Rates vary based on county and volume. Although paid per inspection, you will earn the equivalent of
$30–$40
per hour. Depending on the county and whether it is urban or rural, you may complete anywhere from 20–500 inspections per month working 2–30 hours per week. Lower volume counties have higher rates; higher volume counties have lower rates. There is no set amount of inspections per month, but the work is consistent month‑to‑month. Earn more as you become established, have greater availability to inspect, or are willing to cover a larger territory. No additional mileage reimbursement is provided beyond the flat fee per inspection.
