As an ActiveSafety Engineer at Tesla, you will work to ensure that our vehicles meet and exceed global safety standards. You will be responsible for vehicle-level homologation and validation of active safety and crash-avoidance systems in alignment with FMVSS/CMVSS 100-series, ECE and NHTSA NCAP requirements.
You will also play a key role in testing and validating Automated Driving System (ADS) vehicles using both manual track testing and simulation-based methodology to confirm compliance with existing and upcoming FMVSS updates as regulations evolve over time.
What You'll Do
Plan and execute vehicle level active safety tests as per FMVSS 100-series, ECE and NHTSA NCAP standards
Lead NCAP crash-avoidance evaluations AEB, FCW, LDW/LKA, PAEB, BSI/BSW etc and support AP team
Develop and validate ADS test plans that combine manual driving and simulation to assess compliance with current and future FMVSS requirements
Instrument and configure test vehicles ensuring accurate data capture and safe operation
Schedule and manage proving-ground activities, coordinating global resources and test facilities
Analyze, visualize and report test data using internal tools
Work with Integration team to simulate physical results to evaluate ADS performance
Collaborate cross-functionally with ADAS/ADS software, controls and homologation teams to ensure performance meets both regulatory and internal safety targets
Continuously refine Tesla's active safety and ADS validation processes to align with evolving NCAP and FMVSS protocols
Maintain calibration, verification, and traceability for all data-acquisition and measurement systems (Link, Dewesoft, VBOX, OxTS, etc.)
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive or Systems Engineering or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience in vehicle testing, active safety, ADAS/ADS validation for homologation activities
Proven hands‑on experience with proving-ground testing, data-acquisition systems and instrumentation (accelerometers, lux sensors, thermocouples, IMUs, analog sensors)
Working knowledge of FMVSS/CMVSS 100-series, ECE, and NHTSA NCAP crash-avoidance test protocols
Experience with ADS/ADAS feature testing in both physical and simulation environments
Familiarity with vehicle dynamics, braking systems, and driver-assist control logic
Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, JIRA, MSOffice and test-data visualization tools
Excellent communication and organizational skills with a passion for safety innovation
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 30‑40% including domestic and international proving-ground activities
