is looking for an Associate Director of Philanthropy to develop and manage a portfolio of corporate donors, build productive relationships, and support corporate engagement initiatives.
Overview The Associate Director (ADOP) will be responsible for 70–90 strategic moves per year, including submitting 10–20 letters of intent, requests for proposals, and grant applications. The annual fundraising goal is $1,000,000 and above. The ADOP will focus on corporate engagement, understand complex donor development strategies, direct asks for global, regional, and local conservation priorities, and provide donors with recognition opportunities.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage a portfolio of corporate donors and build productive relationships.
Plan and execute 70–90 strategic engagement activities each year.
Submit letters of intent, proposals, and grant applications (10–20 annually).
Provide strategic guidance and use donor database to research, record, analyze, and report on corporate fundraising engagements.
Collaborate with development team, field partners, and cross‑functional teams to design multi‑year corporate donor strategies.
Present TNC programs publicly and facilitate donor recognition opportunities.
Draft proposals, project budgets, and manage referral networks as needed.
Travel frequently within North Carolina, primarily based in Raleigh‑Durham or Charlotte.
Ensure compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program and Vehicle Use Agreement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of related experience or equivalent combination.
Experience building and maintaining long‑term relationships with fundraising constituents.
Experience asking for and closing gifts of $50,000 or more.
Experience managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.
Experience working with cross‑functional teams, preferably in a large nonprofit.
Experience working with fundraising principles and practices.
Experience or coursework in capital campaigns, major gifts, or planned giving.
Desired Qualifications
Multi‑lingual skills and cross‑cultural experience.
Ability to design and manage individualized cultivation, solicitation, and recognition plans.
Ability to assess donor interests, capacity, and potential and align them with TNC’s work.
Ability to educate prospective and existing donors on appropriate giving vehicles.
Proven listening, diplomacy, and tact to build strong relationships and motivate donors and volunteers.
Proven negotiation skills for complex, high‑profile or sensitive agreements.
Working knowledge of charitable gift planning.
Location Durham, North Carolina
Salary $87,330 – $113,500 (United States)
