Associate Director of Philanthropy - Corporate Engagement
The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is seeking an Associate Director of Philanthropy (ADOP) to develop and manage a portfolio of corporate donors, build productive relationships with them, and achieve an annual fundraising goal of $1,000,000 and above.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage a portfolio of corporate donors and build productive relationships on behalf of TNC.
Execute 70–90 strategic moves each year, including submitting 10–20 letters of intent, requests for proposals, and/or grant applications.
Focus on corporate engagement and apply complex donor development strategies to corporate relationships.
Prepare direct asks for global, regional, and local conservation priorities to meet funding needs.
Discuss environmental, social, and governance issues affecting corporate donors within the context of TNC’s mission.
Provide opportunities for donors to receive recognition and increase future giving.
Plan, implement, and coordinate effective multi‑year strategies and plans for corporate donor prospects with the development team.
Collaborate with partners in the field and across the organization.
Present TNC’s programs and missions to corporate audiences.
Draft proposals and project budgets, utilizing project budget knowledge.
Develop a referral network as needed and may manage formal or informal networks of volunteers.
Use TNC’s donor database to research, record, analyze, and report on corporate fundraising engagements and results.
Position is based in North Carolina with a primary location in Raleigh‑Durham or Charlotte; frequent travel across the state is expected.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of related experience or an equivalent combination.
Experience building and maintaining long‑term relationships with fundraising constituents.
Experience asking for and closing gifts of $50,000 or more.
Experience managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.
Experience working with cross‑functional teams, preferably in a large non‑profit.
Experience working with fundraising principles and practices.
Experience, coursework, or other training in current trends in charitable giving in capital campaigns, major gifts, or planned giving.
Desired Qualifications
Multilingual skills and multicultural or cross‑cultural experience appreciated.
Ability to design and manage fundraising plans, including individualized cultivation, solicitation, and recognition plans.
Ability to determine an individual’s interests, capacity, and potential for helping the Conservancy meet its goals and tie those interests to TNC’s work.
Ability to educate and inform prospective and existing donors about appropriate giving vehicles.
Demonstrated experience using listening, diplomacy, and tact to build strong relationships and motivate donors and volunteers.
Proven ability to negotiate complex, high‑profile or sensitive agreements.
Working knowledge of charitable gift planning.
Location and Travel This position is located in North Carolina (Raleigh‑Durham or Charlotte). Frequent travel across the state is expected.
Auto Safety Program This position requires a valid driver’s license and compliance with
TNC’s Auto Safety Program . Employees may not drive Conservancy‑owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered “high risk drivers.” Employees must complete a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee’s motor‑vehicle record.
Salary The starting pay range for a selected candidate is generally $87,330–$113,500 annually (US only). Actual pay within this range depends on location, qualifications, and other factors.
