Purpose The Sr. Cloud Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a scalable, secure, and resilient cloud infrastructure that supports business‑critical systems. This role provides technical leadership across automation, observability, platform reliability, and modern cloud architecture standards while mentoring peers and influencing long‑term cloud strategy.

While this is a fully remote position, we are looking for candidates located within pacific and mountain times zones because of our client base.

The engineer applies advanced knowledge across cloud platforms, networking, compute, storage, CI/CD systems, and security controls to ensure availability, performance, and cost‑effectiveness. While cloud technologies may span multiple providers, the organization primarily operates in AWS, and deep familiarity with core AWS services is expected.

This position is ideal for an experienced cloud or SRE professional seeking to shape infrastructure standards, guide engineering best practices, and help elevate organizational cloud maturity.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.

Equivalent, relevant professional experience will be considered in place of formal education.

Years of Experience in Related Field

6-10 years of experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Platform Engineering.

Demonstrated success supporting or architecting production cloud environments at scale.

Experience guiding engineering practices or leading significant platform initiatives.

Credentials or Certifications – Preferred

AWS Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional

AWS Cloud Practitioner

Terraform Associate Certification or equivalent

Kubernetes certifications such as CKA or CKAD

AWS Advanced Networking or Security certification a plus

Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities and/or Competencies

Required

Strong understanding of cloud architecture concepts including networking, compute, storage, identity, automation, and high availability

Advanced hands‑on experience with AWS services including RDS, EKS, Route 53, VPC, Transit Gateway, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, ALB/NLB, EC2, S3, Systems Manager

Expert‑level experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)

Advanced experience designing CI/CD pipelines using modern pipeline‑as‑code workflows

Proficiency in Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages

Strong Linux administration background and experience managing Windows Server

Experience implementing monitoring, logging, metrics, dashboards, and alerting without dependence on specific vendors

Deep understanding of PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server

Ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems across network and application layers

Strong communication and collaboration skills

Ability to mentor junior engineers and influence platform standards

Preferred

Production Kubernetes experience, ideally Amazon EKS

Experience working with multi‑account AWS environments using AWS Organizations and AWS Control Tower

Experience with least‑privilege IAM and secure cloud architecture practices

Familiarity with compliance‑driven environments such as HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST

Experience with Microsoft SQL Server in cloud or hybrid environments

Ability to review or assist with debugging developer code (Python, Node.js, PHP, etc.)

Job Duties

Architecture & Design: Design and implement scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure.

Automation & IaC: Lead IaC development using Terraform or CloudFormation.

CI/CD Engineering: Architect and maintain CI/CD workflows using pipeline‑as‑code and automated validation.

Observability: Develop monitoring, logging, dashboarding, and alerting strategies supporting reliability.

Database & Application Support: Support PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Server performance and reliability.

Security & Compliance: Implement least‑privilege IAM, enforce security best practices, and support audit readiness.

Documentation: Maintain high‑quality documentation for infrastructure and operations.

Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to increase reliability, performance, automation, and efficiency.
