Casella Construction is looking for a hardworking and motivated Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our Maintenance Department in Fort Edward, NY. The Heavy Diesel Mechanic’s shift is Monday – Friday, either shifts are available 11:00 AM - 8:30 PM, or 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM at our shop in Fort Edward, NY.

The Heavy Diesel Mechanic is responsible for day-to-day equipment maintenance and minor to major repairs on our diverse fleet which consists of Mack triaxle dump trucks, Kenworth T880 & W900 Diesel tractors. The Heavy Diesel Mechanic would also be working on our trailers as well: live floor, dump and lowboy trailers.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform repairs along with assigned preventive maintenance services on all fleet vehicles (Diesel and LNG tractors, trailers, and other related parts).

Review and complete repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection reports.

Complete all paperwork on fleet vehicles utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, parts usage and repair times.

Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, brake inspections, and filter replacements.

Use diagnostic tools and software to identify faults and recommend solutions.

Weld and fabricate components as needed.

Adhere to safety protocols and environmental regulations.

Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding job status and issues.

Keep work areas clean and organized.

Training requirements, both in person and online, as needed or required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and carry heavy parts and tools (50+ lbs).

Capable of standing, bending, kneeling, and lying in awkward positions for extended periods.

Comfortable working in hot, cold, dirty, or noisy environments.

Strong hand-eye coordination and grip strength.

Ability to climb ladders and maneuver in tight spaces.

Good vision and hearing (with or without corrective aids).

Flexibility to twist, reach, and stretch during repairs.

Qualifications

Diesel engine repair work of 2 years preferred

High School Diploma or GED

Must be 18 years or older

Considerable knowledge in equipment maintenance and repair gained through formal training or on the job experience

Class A and or Class B CDL desirable

Must be able to handle major repairs

Experience with both tractor and trailer PMs and repairs.

Basic computer skills and knowledge

Ability to safely lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Must be able to squat, bend and work in confined areas for extended periods of time

Must have own tools

Preferred Qualifications

Proficient in diagnosing and managing regular scheduled maintenance schedules

Experienced in welding and fabrication

Hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair

Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities

Effective communication and teamwork skills

Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently

Hourly Hiring Range: $21.63/hr. - $25.96/hr.

This range reflects the base pay we reasonably expect to offer for this position at the time of posting, considering current market conditions and industry benchmarks.

Final and individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
