A well-established heavy civil contractor in the coastal region of North Carolina is seeking an experienced
Estimator
to join their team. This firm specializes in large-scale site development, utilities, roadway, and earthwork projects. The ideal candidate has strong takeoff and bid preparation skills, is detail-oriented, and can work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for sitework, earthwork, utilities, and infrastructure projects.
Perform quantity takeoffs using digital estimating software and/or CAD files.
Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to determine scope of work.
Develop detailed cost breakdowns, including labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor pricing.
Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing.
Prepare bid proposals and support senior management during bid reviews.
Assist with build-out of project budgets, schedules, and procurement planning after award.
Maintain a strong understanding of local market pricing, production rates, and regional conditions.
Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure continuity between estimating and project execution.
Qualifications
3+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction (sitework, utilities, or earthwork preferred).
Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, or similar estimating/takeoff platforms (preferred but not required).
Strong ability to read and interpret civil drawings and technical specifications.
Solid understanding of construction means, methods, production rates, and cost components.
Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred but not required.
