This position performs minor to complex maintenance and service as needed to support ongoing facility operations that are initiated through work requests or dispatched by the engineering control room, call center, or a member of management in accordance with Hospital standards. The role includes installations, equipment assembly, troubleshooting, and repair of all plumbing-related equipment and maintenance of general building systems and structure. Responsibilities also encompass installing and repairing domestic water piping, heating water loops, sewer lines, unclogging sinks, commodes, waste hoppers, drainage lines, and responding to all requests in order of priority. The plumber will provide support to the Plumber III position, handle ordering and procurement of materials, ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities to the next shift, and respond to all hospital emergencies including leaks, odors, and fire alarms. Repairs and new installations must comply with current plumbing codes, and all concerns are reported to the designated specialist or manager. The incumbent must be able to perform the job functions of the Plumber I, possess a valid driver’s license, and be capable of operating hospital vehicles. Variable hours or shifts may apply. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, reaching, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and lifting or moving up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Perform maintenance, installation and repair of plumbing systems and fixtures across the hospital complex. Conduct safety checks throughout the hospital complex. Identify material and tool needs, place purchase orders, and ensure accurate records. Ensure all plumbing work complies with governing code regulations. Establish and enforce work schedules and timelines. Diagnose and resolve trouble tickets or work orders thoroughly. Follow up with requestors to confirm problem resolution.

Functional Accountabilities

Take initiative to identify and report deficiencies in the physical plant. Routinely use all safety measures related to work orders and specific tasks. Speak up about unsafe behavior or performance. Validate and verify information needed for decision-making or documentation. Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co‑workers. Practice Stop, Think, Act and Review to maintain accurate communication. Study blueprints and diagrams to understand layout, location and specifications of items to be installed. Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on plumbing equipment and systems. Maintain corrective tickets, PM cards, project sheets and status boards up to date.

Qualifications

Minimum Education : High School Diploma or GED (Required) Minimum Work Experience : 5 years related and responsible experience with the plumbing trade (Required) Required Skills/Knowledge : Expertise in the specialty area, strong knowledge of plumbing codes, basic algebra, PC operating systems and mobile work‑entry devices, proficiency with intranet and Microsoft Office Suite, customer service skills. Required Licenses and Certifications : DCRA Journeyman Plumbing License, Valid Driver’s License, Med Gas Certification (1 year), Back‑Flow Certification (1 year)
