Job Title:
Ambulatory Patient Care Tech
Location:
District of Columbia – Washington (CN Hospital (Main Campus), 111 Michigan Avenue NW, Washington, 20010)
Position Status:
R (Regular) – PT (Part-Time)
Shift:

Work Schedule:
1–8hr shift minimum per week
Responsibilities
Collect data and document information for meaningful use (chief complaint, current medications, allergies, tobacco/smoking history, smoke exposure, vital signs, height, weight, head circumference); orient patients and families at the time of visit.
Recognize abnormalities and report to RN or Provider, assist in pain screening, identify abuse/neglect indicators, and provide Basic Life Support if needed.
Provide basic nursing care (e.g., nourishment, assistance with ambulation, escort at discharge).
Check and maintain equipment (scales, stadiometers, vital signs machines, otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, oxygen, suction) in working order and report needed repairs.
Collect specimens for testing and perform specific testing (POCT, lab draws) per clinic policy.
Inform patients/guardians of collection process and provide resources/brochures.
Meet Joint Commission and DOH documentation requirements, complete clean sweep tool weekly.
Help maintain neat environment and assist with exam room preparation.
Prioritize and complete tasks or report inability to complete.
Obtain equipment and supplies, maintain PAR levels.
Monitor waiting room, keep families informed of delays, provide directions as needed.
Identify children/families with special needs (e.g., stretcher, oxygen, isolation).
Contribute to a positive work environment, confer with personnel on problems.
Greet patients/families, adjust communication to education level, address anxiety, maintain courteous demeanor.
Perform, evaluate, and report QC protocol; resolve failures; document and report problems.
Participate in continuing education and competency challenges.
Process specimens by centrifugation, sort to test areas; coordinate pick‑up/delivery; troubleshoot specimen‑processing procedures.
Investigate and handle improperly labeled or inadequate specimens; answer info questions and route technical questions.
Monitor and maintain daily lab equipment records; maintain simple equipment; order inventory and supplies.
Collect blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary methods; conduct routine laboratory tests (urine dipstick, glucose, A1C).
Follow directions precisely, maintain confidentiality, attend in‑services, develop personal education program, complete CHEX requirements.
Maintain satisfactory time and attendance, complete Occupational Health requirements, maintain BLS certification, and any required certification/licensure by jurisdiction.
Qualifications Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Minimum Work Experience:
1 year in an acute health care setting – preferably pediatrics (Preferred)
