The Project Manager will represent nuclear energy industry interests and drive issues to resolution in the areas of policy, legislation, regulation, communication with regard to fuel cycle facilities and fuel supply. Help develop a program applicable to the current and the future industry and lead the industry in planning, organizing, and implementing strategies to fulfill the vision.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Influence international and national organizations and agencies to produce policy, standards, regulations, and guidance that are reflective of actual risk, are performance-based, and avoid unnecessary burden.
Help senior staff serve as the nuclear energy industry spokesperson on fuel supply and fuel cycle facilities to promote industry’s perspective on issues (e.g., developing testimony at Congressional committee hearings, appearing at meetings and hearings of federal agencies, participating in symposia and conferences of national and international organizations and the States, publishing articles and papers, participating in interviews with the media and press, and responding to members of the public).
Provide in-house support and advice regarding fuel supply and fuel cycle facilities for the full range of NEI core activities – regulation, legislation, communications, legal, and outreach to member companies and the public.
Serve as the nuclear energy industry representative on appropriate and relevant standards committees, including industry leadership committees and committees formed by the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) and the Electric Power Research (EPRI) to develop, authorize and/or approve standards and provide input into ISO standards and industry performance standards that are contemporary, technologically accurate, useful, practical, and cost-effective.
Analyze scientific developments (by continuously monitoring activities of international and national scientific organizations, participating in symposia and conferences, and reviewing the scientific and technical literature) to anticipate and plan actions to address emerging issues and mitigate impacts on the industry.
Identify the need for, organize, and lead industry task groups to resolve fuel supply and fuel cycle facilities for existing and new plants.
Plan, organize and conduct the nuclear energy industry forums.
Maintain a line of communication with industry program managers and senior staff (while respecting INPO’s role) to understand industry needs for NEI action and provide timely and useful information to support the industry.
Lead the development, organization and implementation of industry strategic plans for fuel supply and fuel cycle facilities.
Job Specification One to five years of relevant experience.
Knowledge In addition to the technical, business, organizational and managerial skills identified above, the incumbent must possess an understanding of nuclear regulation, preferably as it related to fuel supply and cycle facilities.
Skills & Abilities
Ability to carry out position functions with broad guidance on policy and goals with minimal to moderate oversight and direction for Senior PM and PM, respectively.
Excellence in oral and written communications.
Excellence in strategic and analytical thinking.
Excellence in consensus‑building.
Ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams.
Education Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a nuclear energy related field or health physics or environmental health (or related scientific or engineering discipline).
Location This position is in Washington, DC. This is a hybrid position and will require time in the office.
Pay Range For employees who live in the Washington, DC Metro area, the salary range for this position is $135,019 – $202,529 annually. Typically, new hires are brought into the organization at a salary range between the minimum and midpoint, depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted salary for the role.
