Job Description
The Automotive Parts Director oversees the entire Parts Department, ensuring efficient operations, strong inventory management, and outstanding internal and external customer support. This role is responsible for maximizing parts profitability, maintaining accurate inventory levels, reducing obsolescence, and ensuring consistent alignment with Service and Sales departments. The Parts Director leads, trains, and develops the parts team while upholding dealership processes and manufacturer standards.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail‑oriented, and capable of balancing administrative tasks with hands‑on leadership in a fast‑paced environment. Experience working with both Ford and Stellantis (CDJR) parts systems is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of the Parts Department, ensuring smooth workflow and strong team performance
Train, mentor, and develop parts staff to meet departmental and dealership goals
Maintain a culture of accountability, accuracy, and excellent customer service
Manage parts inventory levels to meet service and sales needs without excessive stock
Monitor aging reports weekly and proactively reduce obsolete inventory
Ensure accurate binning, labeling, and storage of all parts
Oversee annual and cycle physical inventory counts and reconciliation
Track and manage department KPIs, including gross profit, inventory turn, fill rate, and obsolescence
Control departmental expenses and maintain profitability goals
Ensure compliance with OEM parts programs (Ford and Stellantis)
Approve and oversee all parts orders, returns, and core tracking
Maintain strong vendor and OEM relationships to optimize pricing and availability
Negotiate terms and resolve supply chain issues as needed
Work closely with Service to ensure accurate special orders, timely parts delivery, and efficient RO processing
Partner with Sales on parts needs for reconditioning, upfitting, accessories, and warranty requirements
Support Used Car operations with recon parts and efficient turnaround times
Ensure counter staff provide prompt, accurate parts support to technicians and retail customers
Handle escalated customer issues and resolve concerns professionally
Maintain clear communication with all dealership departments to improve workflow and efficiency
Ensure adherence to dealership policies, OEM guidelines, and safety standards
Maintain proper documentation, reporting, and operational checklists
Implement process improvements to boost efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications
3+ years of dealership parts experience (management or assistant management experience preferred)
Strong knowledge of Ford and/or Stellantis OEM parts systems
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Proficient in inventory control and cost management
Experience using Dealertrack is highly preferred
Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Professional, customer‑focused demeanor
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
