Its engineers build critical infrastructure to eliminate friction in scientific research, simulations, analysis, and decision-making, accelerating discovery and driving faster innovation.**The Position**NMC² is seeking a Network Automation Engineer to design, automate, and optimize the networks that power advanced compute and AI workloads. This is a hands-on role combining networking expertise and software engineering to build scalable, reliable, and observable systems for HPC and bare-metal environments. You’ll work closely with platform, network, and security teams to create automation that drives efficiency, reliability, and speed across our global infrastructure.**Responsibilities:*** Design and implement automation frameworks to simplify network provisioning and lifecycle management.* Develop and maintain automation tooling and scripts in Python, and apply Infrastructure-as-Code practices using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and Jinja2.* Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines for consistent, repeatable deployments.* Build APIs and internal tools that enable network self-service for engineering teams.* Implement observability solutions for performance, availability, and telemetry using modern monitoring stacks.* Collaborate across teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient automation solutions.* Participate in on-call rotations and post-incident reviews to improve system reliability.**Requirements:*** Proven experience in network and/or software engineering with a focus on automation.* Strong programming proficiency in Python and familiarity with CI/CD and modern software development practices.* Solid understanding of network fundamentals — routing, switching, firewalls, and network design principles.* Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management tools (Ansible, Terraform, Jinja2).* Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, etc.).* Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.**Preferred Qualifications:*** Experience with event-driven or message-based architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ).* Knowledge of API design and service integration.* Familiarity with secrets management, policy-as-code, or service discovery frameworks.* Exposure to large-scale data center networking (Cisco, Arista, segment routing, multitenant designs).* Contributions to open-source networking or automation projects.*It is impossible to list every requirement for, or responsibility of, any position.
