NMC2
The Company
NorthMark Compute & Cloud (NMC²)is backed by dedicated leadership and investment, with a clear mission as it operates at the bleeding edge of technology. Its goal is to scale and enhance the high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud infrastructure that supports its clients' research, production, and delivery, enabling breakthroughs that shape the industries of tomorrow. Its engineers build critical infrastructure to eliminate friction in scientific research, simulations, analysis, and decision-making, accelerating discovery and driving faster innovation.
The Position NMC² is seeking a Network Automation Engineer to design, automate, and optimize the networks that power advanced compute and AI workloads. This is a hands-on role combining networking expertise and software engineering to build scalable, reliable, and observable systems for HPC and bare-metal environments. You’ll work closely with platform, network, and security teams to create automation that drives efficiency, reliability, and speed across our global infrastructure. Responsibilities: Design and implement automation frameworks to simplify network provisioning and lifecycle management. Develop and maintain automation tooling and scripts in Python, and apply Infrastructure-as-Code practices using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and Jinja2. Build APIs and internal tools that enable network self-service for engineering teams. Implement observability solutions for performance, availability, and telemetry using modern monitoring stacks. Collaborate across teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient automation solutions. Participate in on-call rotations and post-incident reviews to improve system reliability. Requirements: Proven experience in network and/or software engineering with a focus on automation. Strong programming proficiency in Python and familiarity with CI/CD and modern software development practices. Solid understanding of network fundamentals — routing, switching, firewalls, and network design principles. Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management tools (Ansible, Terraform, Jinja2). Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, etc.). Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with event-driven or message-based architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ). Knowledge of API design and service integration. Familiarity with secrets management, policy-as-code, or service discovery frameworks. Contributions to open-source networking or automation projects.
