Position Overview As the
Activity Director
at
Forest Glen , you will oversee the planning, development, and execution of a comprehensive recreational and therapeutic activities program. You will lead a team of activity assistants and work collaboratively with nursing and other departments to ensure that residents’ interests, physical abilities, and cognitive needs are met through a variety of social, physical, and creative activities.

Key Responsibilities
Plan, develop, and implement individualized and group activity programs that promote residents’ physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being.
Oversee the daily operation of the activities department, ensuring a variety of programs are available to meet the diverse interests and needs of residents.
Supervise, mentor, and train activity assistants to support effective program delivery.
Create and manage activity schedules, ensuring activities are inclusive, engaging, and well-attended.
Coordinate special events, outings, holiday celebrations, and social gatherings for residents and families.
Conduct assessments to determine individual resident activity preferences and needs, developing personalized activity plans.
Ensure all activities are in line with the facility’s mission, goals, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Maintain detailed records of residents’ participation, preferences, and progress in the activity program.
Collaborate with other departments (e.g., nursing, social services, dietary) to integrate therapeutic activities into residents’ overall care plans.
Maintain a safe and clean environment for residents to engage in activities and outings.
Budget and order supplies needed for programs, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred.
Previous experience as an Activity Director or in a leadership role within a healthcare setting, particularly in long-term care, is preferred.
Certification in Activity Director or Recreational Therapy (such as CTRS, ADC, or CDP) is highly desirable.
Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to create engaging and meaningful activities tailored to the needs and abilities of residents.
Excellent communication and team-building skills, with the ability to connect with residents, families, and staff.
Compassionate, resident-focused approach to care.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support resident engagement and activities.
