University Overview The University of Connecticut, founded in 1881, is a Land Grant and Sea Grant institution and a member of the Space Grant Consortium.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Reporting to the President, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a dynamic and visionary leader responsible for the overall operational and financial health of the institution.

As a member of the President’s cabinet and the University Senate, the CFO works closely with senior leaders, faculty, and staff to ensure the University’s finances are efficient, sustainable and aligned with strategic goals.

The CFO oversees Finance & Budget—including Financial Operations and Controller, Budget and Planning, Procurement and Business Services, Accounting, Accounts Payable, Bursar, Financial Systems, Payroll, and Treasury—to support the academic and research missions of UConn through quality customer service, effective collaboration, and strong stewardship of financial and capital resources.

Responsibilities

Oversee long‑range financial planning and management of operating and capital budgets for all units of the University;

Coordinate capital and operating budget development, monitoring, reporting, and revenue‑generating initiatives in conformity with policies set forth by the Board of Trustees;

Develop financial policy and plans in conjunction with the President, Provost, and other Vice Presidents;

Serve as the University’s point of contact for external agencies and partners on business and operational matters;

Act as the President’s representative on business and financial matters to university units and constituencies and interact closely with the Office of the Governor and other state agencies;

Engage staff and hold them accountable for excellence, thereby supporting and enabling the success of the University’s academic and research missions.

Qualifications

Strategic decision‑maker with significant business acumen and judgment;

Skilled communicator with exceptional oral and written communication skills, including expertise in presenting and negotiating;

Results‑oriented, able to interpret complex problems, find solutions, and effectively implement them;

Proficient at employing metrics to inform decisions, improve business processes, and drive performance and quality;

Collaborative leader capable of working effectively with a range of constituencies, both internal and external.
