Role Overview
The Principal Strategic Sourcing Specialist at Boston Scientific is responsible for developing and executing optimal category and sourcing strategies for finished medical devices. The role establishes and enhances supplier relationships to drive sourcing and supplier initiatives to meet or exceed product quality, service and deliver sustainable cost reductions while reducing or mitigating risk in the Supply Chain. The Specialist collaborates with internal stakeholders and aligns on optimal sourcing strategies to develop and implement one common category strategy for the assigned category. The position also develops a supplier database that identifies and categorizes potential suppliers by category and region to increase the value proposition and reduce total cost of ownership. Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic influence while building value‑add relationships with engaged finished‑good suppliers to increase sourcing efficiency. Manage strategic supplier relationships in line with the Category Strategy and understand the strategic differentiators for each supplier. Define, build and plan alignment on Category Strategy for the assigned category. Gather market intelligence and trends for the category and sub‑categories. Identify risks within the category and work closely with stakeholders to eliminate or mitigate strategic risks. Drive supplier strategic activities and develop supplier capability roadmaps in collaboration with Supplier Engineering, Supplier Quality and other key stakeholders. Promote continuous (year‑on‑year) value improvement for quality, service, and cost with assigned suppliers; manage supplier performance and identify value‑improvement programs to improve TCO. Ensure optimal balance between collaborative engagement and competitive pressure to maximize value. Negotiate value improvements and manage supplier contracts. Provide strategic influence with internal stakeholders. Arrange and execute monthly and quarterly supplier performance reviews with key suppliers. Own the annual budget process for assigned suppliers and resolve crisis or systematic issues. Establish and support a work environment of continuous improvement aligned with Boston Scientific’s Quality Policy, Quality System and applicable regulations. Build alignment between business needs and market dynamics. Identify insourcing and outsourcing opportunities. Establish early involvement to achieve development performance goals, support project timelines and manage product cost. Lead R&D communications related to the category and facilitate identification and evaluation of new materials or technologies to cover current and future Boston Scientific requirements. Identify all suitable suppliers per category and region per sample RFQ and develop a comprehensive supplier knowledge database. Partner with other Global Sourcing Team members for proactive information sharing to optimize the supply base. Develop should‑cost models for major sub‑categories. Job Requirements
Candidate must hold at least a degree in a related field. 10–12 years of strategic procurement (sourcing) and supplier relationship management experience. Leadership and influencing skills. Experience managing supplier contracts and negotiating value improvements. Excellent communication (in English) and collaboration skills. Ability to travel up to 20% of the time; travel typically does not occur over weekends. Preferred Qualifications
