The Indirect Tax Senior will support the company’s U.S. and Canadian indirect tax and property tax compliance, audit defense, and process improvement initiatives. This role will serve as a subject matter resource on sales & use tax, GST, and excise tax matters and will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Finance, IT, Procurement, and Operations.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in gathering information to send to third party sales tax compliance provider (Vertex)
Assist in reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual indirect tax returns and related filings (Sales & Use, GST, Excise, etc.)
Assist with tax accounting activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis for indirect taxes
Assist with property tax compliance by maintaining asset lists, recording bill payments, and liaising with our compliance provider to ensure all payments and returns are paid/filed in a timely manner
Research and analyze tax laws, regulatory changes, and taxability of products/services to support accurate tax determination
Assist with tax audits by preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and coordinating with external advisors
Support implementation and maintenance of tax automation solutions (Vertex and SAP)
Assist with exemption certificates and support vendor tax documentation requirements
Identify opportunities to improve compliance processes, enhance controls, and mitigate tax risk
Participate in special projects including nexus reviews, indirect tax planning, and data analytics
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in indirect tax compliance (public accounting or corporate)
Strong understanding of U.S. sales & use tax rules; experience with GST is a plus
Property tax compliance experience is a plus
Experience with ERP systems and tax engines. Vertex and SAP experience is a plus
Advanced Excel and strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
