Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem‑Nurse. The successful candidate will carry out patient care responsibilities with an emphasis on decision‑making related to the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation—providing competent, safe, and compassionate care based on established NYU Langone Health Patient Care and Nursing Standards. As part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will formulate the initial plan of care with the provider and collaborate to implement a comprehensive patient‑centered plan that achieves expected outcomes, using principles of assignment and delegation consistent with the NY State Nurse Practice Act.

Job Responsibilities

Demonstrate a solid foundation and understanding of organizational goals within the quality and safety performance improvement plan (QSPIP) and nurse‑sensitive quality indicators (e.g., HAPU, CAUTI, CLABSI, falls).

Collect, assess, and document patient healthcare data.

Involve patient/family and interdisciplinary team to identify a realistic and measurable plan of care and outcomes.

Prioritize care based on collected data.

Document assessment and reassessment in the medical record.

Implement interventions in coordination of patient care, ensuring safety, timeliness, and appropriateness, and apply the escalation process.

Consider the needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all patient care activities.

Document interventions per hospital standard.

Educate the patient/family regarding health status and the established plan of care.

Determine learning needs of the patient/family, implement an educational plan, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to modify expected outcomes.

Document learning outcomes and revise the education plan (including utilization of EHR education tools).

Evaluate the patient’s progress toward expected outcomes, involve the patient/family and interdisciplinary team in the evaluation process, recognize changes in patient condition, and report findings to evaluate intervention effectiveness.

Participate in and contribute to unit activities that provide patient care in a healing, humane, and caring environment.

Demonstrate understanding of and contribute to unit throughput efficiencies and metrics (e.g., DBN, door‑to‑triage, assign‑to‑occupy, first case starts, room turnover).

Comply with unit‑based and organizational professional standards, the New York State Nurse Practice Act, and regulations of relevant outside agencies (e.g., NY State Department of Health, The Joint Commission).

Exercise appropriate judgment in delegated activities.

Differentiate activities within the scope of professional nursing practice from those that may be delegated to ancillary staff.

Meet annual education and mandatory/regulatory requirements, including submitted learning transcripts and supporting documentation.

Serve as a support and resource for nursing staff and students.

Engage in self‑assessment and peer review, utilizing resources to meet individual learning needs and promote professional development in clinical practice.

Adhere to patient care and nursing standards, using clinical practice guidelines (CPG).

Attend unit practice councils (UPC) and use the practice council structure to critically appraise and influence practice, including providing supporting evidence.

Minimum Qualifications Current Registered Professional Nurse in New York, a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association, and fluent written and spoken English language skills.

Required Licenses Registered Nurse License (NYS), Basic Life Support Certificate.

Preferred Qualifications Membership in a pertinent professional organization.

Salary Transparency Salary range: $1.44 – $1.44 per hour. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The range does not include bonuses, incentives, differential pay, or other compensation or benefits.
