Overview

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Rutgers University (OLLI‑RU) is a program specifically for older adults, 50 and over, who are looking to learn in an engaging environment. We offer non‑credit courses ranging from academic subjects to skills and activities. Teaching formats include facilitated discussions, lectures, hands‑on instruction, and field trips. Instructors may teach in one or more of the following areas:

  • Art
  • Art History
  • Computer Science
  • Contemporary Issues
  • Crafts
  • Environmental Science
  • Film Studies
  • History
  • Music
  • Music History
  • Philosophy
  • Photography
  • Poetry
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Science – Biology, Physiology, Astronomy, etc.
  • Writing

Responsibilities

  • Handle course creation and content delivery during any of the prescheduled programs that run throughout the year. Courses typically meet in person for 90 minutes once a week across New Jersey, but also meet remotely via Zoom and in person as conditions allow. Program length ranges from one day to ten weeks.

Compensation

Salary: $35.00 per hour. Final salary offer may be determined by candidate’s qualifications, experience, expertise, and departmental or grant funds. Compensation will be benchmarked to market and internal equity.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or prior experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience instructing relevant program content.
  • Knowledge of classroom management, adult learning, and effective communication/facilitation techniques.
  • General computer proficiency.
