Qualifications
Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in MEP commissioning, construction management, or building systems engineering, with a proven track record of leading complex projects
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline required. Master’s degree or advanced certifications preferred
Certifications: LEED AP, CxA, or equivalent commissioning credentials highly desirable. OSHA 30 certification preferred
Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of BIM, commissioning software, and building automation systems
Responsibilities
Lead and manage end‑to‑end commissioning activities for multiple large‑scale new construction and retrofit projects, ensuring alignment with project goals and operational readiness
Develop and implement comprehensive commissioning strategies, integrating system startup, testing, and turnover milestones into overall project schedules
Establish and enforce project‑specific commissioning protocols, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, regulatory standards, and quality benchmarks from design phase to project close‑out
Integrate commission readiness early in project planning to reduce last‑minute issues
Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, trade partners, commissioning teams and Shawmut’s construction team to ensure systems are installed and commissioned in accordance with design intent and performance expectations
Oversee coordination with site‑based Quality Control (QC) and MEP teams to ensure all commissioning documentation, checklists, and test scripts are completed accurately and on schedule
Lead commissioning meetings and represent the project team in discussions with internal and external stakeholders, providing updates on schedule, quality, and readiness
Ensure readiness for energization and system startup by verifying completion of critical QC checkpoints and availability of required documentation and resources
Direct the execution of functional tests and verification procedures to confirm system performance and operational compliance
Support the development of commissioning plans for MEP systems, including testing protocols, inspection requirements, factory startup coordination, and owner training
Maintain thorough knowledge of project specifications, drawings, submittals, and applicable building codes to ensure commissioning activities align with design and regulatory standards
Facilitate pre‑installation meetings with trade partners and vendors to communicate commissioning scope, expectations, and protocols
Monitor and resolve commissioning‑related deficiencies through proactive punch list management and coordination with project teams
Help manage comprehensive owner training, O&M documentation and operational readiness to ensure clients and effectively manage their building from day one
Help implement pre‑turn‑over audits and punch list resolution strategy to enhance efficiency
Continuous improvement: develop a tracking system startup success and owner satisfaction to measure improvement
Evaluate third‑party inspection and testing results, ensuring timely resolution of issues and documentation of corrective actions
Provide leadership and mentorship to commissioning staff, interns, and assistants, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
