About the Opportunity This is a rare and career-defining opportunity for a dynamic nursing executive to lead clinical operations in a mission‑driven rural healthcare setting. As Chief Nursing Officer, you will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team with full 24/7 accountability for all nursing and clinical departments. This includes Acute Nursing (Emergency and Obstetrics), Surgery, Infusion Services, Cardiopulmonary, Infection Prevention, Employee Health, and Nursing Education.

You’ll manage departmental budgets, staffing, equipment, and operational performance while ensuring compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards. You will serve as a visible, trusted partner to the CEO, medical staff, and governing Board, influencing hospital‑wide strategy and care quality.
Key Responsibilities
Provide executive leadership and 24‑hour accountability for all nursing and clinical departments
Ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance, including CMS and National Performance Improvement measures
Lead staffing, budgeting, workforce planning, and professional development across multiple departments
Partner closely with the CEO, medical staff, and Board to develop strategic priorities
Foster a culture of safety, excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Maintain positive, effective working relationships with clinicians and interdisciplinary teams
Support a professional, high‑quality patient care environment across all service lines
Qualifications Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
BSN or bachelor’s in a healthcare/business field preferred
Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or business strongly preferred
Licensure / Certifications
Current Oregon RN license (or ability to secure promptly)
BLS certification required
Clinical or nursing administration certifications desirable
Experience
Minimum 5+ years of progressive clinical nursing experience
At least 3 years of managerial or executive‑level leadership
1–5 years as a DNS or CNO in a Critical Access Hospital highly preferred
Demonstrated success in rural or remote healthcare settings
Ability to thrive in a small community located approximately two hours from a major city
Skills & Competencies
Strong grasp of patient care delivery and nursing operations
Effective communicator with exceptional written and verbal skills
Budgeting, staffing, and resource management expertise
Proficiency in regulatory compliance and quality improvement
Leadership presence, emotional intelligence, and team‑building ability
Comfortable making independent decisions within defined limits
Able to represent the organization professionally at all levels
Employment Requirements
U.S. Citizen or National
Successful completion of background check and drug screening
500‑hour probationary period
Documentation of employment history, including gaps and separations
