Recreational Therapy Specialist/Child Life Gaming Specialist Position Summary At Stony Brook Medicine, a Recreational Therapy Specialist/Child Life Gaming Specialist is a valuable member of our team, providing quality child life services to children and families in assigned work areas throughout Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. The role delivers clinical services, develops coping skills through game play and recreation, collaborates on digital programming, and works with the healthcare team to integrate gaming and tablet use into patient care plans.

Duties

Assist children in developing coping skills through game play and recreation.

Collaborate with child life staff in development and implementation of new digital programming.

Work with healthcare team members to identify patient needs and develop care plan goals for gaming and tablet use.

Use gaming tools and tablets to help children cope.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a gaming technology related field.

At least 1 year of experience working with gaming and technology in a pediatric setting.

Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum three years’ employment in a gaming or technology focused position serving children.

Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Creative Arts Therapy, or related field.

Dual Certified Child Life (CCLS) and Creative Arts Therapy (LCAT).
