Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms – including product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

Job Summary This hands‑on engineering position develops mobile applications for ESPN inside the Android Ecosystem in Java/Kotlin. You will work with a cross‑functional team of Product Managers, Designers, Mobile/Web/Backend Engineers, and Content Creators to conceptualize and develop world‑class Disney apps. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions, architect reusable solutions shared across all Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology apps, and may lead others to solve complex problems.

Responsibilities

Lead a project or feature, including architecture and solution, collaborating with platform and backend leads, breaking down tasks into manageable tickets, communicating status and risks, coding, conducting PR reviews, and writing tests.

Collaborate with QA and Automation Team.

Interact with Product Development team to review requirements and discuss feature development.

Basic Qualifications

7+ years of hands‑on professional experience with Android development.

Expertise in object‑oriented, functional, and functional‑reactive patterns and concepts.

Knowledge of Android app lifecycle, Google Play and Amazon App Store compliance policies and submission requirements.

Experience on a significant consumer app that is currently available in the marketplace.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; can articulate complex ideas and influence others.

Act as a resource to other Software Engineers, providing an open learning environment for cross‑team knowledge sharing.

Preferred Qualifications

Expert understanding of HTTP/S, APIs, and web services.

Expertise with unit‑test frameworks and continuous integration systems such as JUnit 4/5, MockK, and Espresso.

Solid foundation in dynamic multi‑threaded mobile apps.

Motivated self‑starter who learns and adapts to new technologies.

Works with minimal supervision and supplemental engineering support.

Collaborates in a small, productive development team as well as the larger engineering organization.

Writes efficient, reliable, and maintainable code for architectural improvements, user‑facing features, or defect fixes.

Troubleshoots and resolves issues across various platforms.

Analyzes and optimizes application code for efficiency, reliability, and performance.

Understanding of product architecture, assists other Software Engineers as needed.

Leads project teams to achieve milestones and objectives.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study.

The hiring range for this position in San Francisco, CA is $166,800 — $223,600. Base pay may vary depending on geographic region, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and long‑term incentive units may be offered in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
