The Office of College Admission thinks about how an applicant’s unique talents, accomplishments, energy, curiosity, perspective and identity might weave into the ever‑changing tapestry that is Brown University. Grades, standardized test scores, essays, recommendations, independent work, the quality of the secondary school program and achievements outside the classroom are among the factors used to evaluate this promise, but no single one is determinative.
Responsibilities
Recruiting applicants to Brown University; leading presentations to inform applicants, counselors and families about unique opportunities at Brown.
Counsel students and families through the admission and financial aid process.
Develop relationships with counselors in schools and community‑based organizations.
Admission Officer On‑Call Duties.
Read and evaluate applications and recommend admission decisions to the Board of Admission; evaluate and select applicants.
Plan and implement admission processes and projects, implementing strategy in special areas of expertise.
Plan admissions processes and projects and execute strategy in these areas of expertise.
Manage projects and processes.
Demonstrated success in autonomous work, with increasing ownership of projects; create timelines, coordinate with communications and technical teams, share project updates office‑wide, anticipate problems and implement solutions, analyze data, and write annual summary reports of projects; mentor and assist in training and development of new and current staff.
Qualifications Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree
Eight years of experience in education/higher education fields, with 6 years of college admission experience at a highly selective institution
Job Competencies
Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong writing, active listening and public speaking skills
Willingness to guide and mentor colleagues
Sensitivity to concerns of people of different ages and backgrounds
Willingness and ability to work both independently and with groups
Creativity, efficiency, flexibility, open‑mindedness, good judgment
Ability to work long hours, including evenings and some weekends
Ability to travel
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
First‑hand knowledge of major issues facing American colleges and universities
Driver’s license
Understanding of Brown and its academic standards
Capacity to relate easily and appropriately with a broad range of people
Understanding of public relations and social media
Salary Grade Grade 11
