The Executive Assistant is a member of the executive team, providing personal administrative support and assistance to AFJ’s President in a fast-paced nonprofit environment. Reporting to the President, this position manages workflow and board communications, schedules meetings, coordinates calendars, and shares internal information to ensure staff efficiency. The role involves handling confidential information such as emails, financial data, and other sensitive company information. Duties and Responsibilities
Manage President’s calendar, including scheduling meetings, organizing travel, and preparing travel itineraries; Answer incoming calls for President from media, donors, board members, and member organizations; Coordinate senior staff meetings between President, Vice Presidents, and other senior staff; Prepare and edit materials for meetings; Organize and track files and correspondence; Perform other duties and assist other departments as required. Qualifications
BA degree or equivalent work experience; 5-7 years’ experience in an office setting (preferably nonprofit); Strong tech skills including Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; Ability to multitask, handle multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines; Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; Meticulous attention to detail and quality of work; Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills; Ability to anticipate needs, foresee outcomes, and act independently; Flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor; Interest in law and social justice issues; Event and travel planning experience; Familiarity with EveryAction databases is a plus. Compensation
The starting salary range is $70,000-$78,000, based on experience. AFJ offers a comprehensive benefits package including: Health: Employer-paid medical, dental, vision benefits, and employee assistance programs; Other Insurance: Employer-paid life and disability insurance; Savings: Employer matching 401K plan, flexible spending account; Annual Leave: 11 days first year, 15 days second year, 21 days after 3 years; Sick Leave: 10 days per year; Bereavement Leave: 3 days for immediate family; Family Leave: Up to 16 weeks parental leave and other family leave programs. This is a non-exempt, full-time position with no direct reports, working Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Based in Washington, D.C., staff are expected to be on-site 1-2 days per week. Racial Equity Commitment
