Overview The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works under the guidance of the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC). The NP provides routine assessment, management, and treatment of patients with acute and chronic complaints in collaboration with a supervising physician, and follows standardized procedures approved by Stanford Health Care’s governing committees.
What You Will Do
Provide medical services within the NP’s scope of competence under physician supervision.
Consult or refer to a collaborating physician for tasks beyond competence.
Evaluate and treat patients with acute or chronic complaints and health‑maintenance concerns according to written standardized procedures.
Obtain complete histories and perform pertinent physical examinations on new and return patients.
Order and evaluate diagnostic studies as indicated.
Administer, order, furnish, and prescribe medications per established protocols.
Order and collect specimens for laboratory tests, screenings, and therapeutic procedures.
Order allied‑health services such as physical, occupational, respiratory therapy, and radiology examinations.
Perform procedures after demonstrating competency following written protocols.
Obtain informed consent when indicated.
Initiate arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges and complete appropriate paperwork.
Enroll patients in investigational studies approved by the IRB and obtain physician orders for off‑label medications.
Assist the supervising physician in the operating room as directed.
Recognize age‑specific needs and communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
Initiate life‑saving procedures when necessary and recognize when physician intervention is required.
Coordinate inpatient and outpatient care and collaborate with community resources.
Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Provide patient teaching and counseling.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education Qualifications
Master’s or Doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited college or university (NPs hired before March 1, 2012 are exempt).
Graduate of an NP program accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse (RN) – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure
Nurse Practitioner (NP) – National licensure
NPF – NP Furnishing Number
BLS – Basic Life Support

Base Pay Scale Generally starting at $89.01 – $117.94 per hour. Final salary will be determined based on internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a specific wage.
