OB/GYN Ultrasound Technologist (Per Diem)
Boston Medical Center (BMC) is the largest safety‑net hospital in New England and a primary teaching affiliate of Boston University School of Medicine. We are seeking a dedicated OB/GYN Ultrasound Technologist for a per diem schedule on the East Newton or Harrison Avenue campus.
Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Ultrasound Supervisor, the Ultrasound Technologist generates diagnostic sonographic images for radiologists, assists physicians during sterile invasive procedures, and performs related patient care across the department.
Essential Responsibilities / Duties
Perform a wide variety of obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound examinations and assist physicians during sterile invasive procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, thoracenteses, and intraoperative procedures.
Prepare the exam room and ultrasound equipment in accordance with infection control and patient safety protocols.
Complete examinations in a timely fashion while providing quality scans for Radiology and outside departments.
Ensure patient comfort and dignity at all times and manage patient positioning to prevent injury to both patient and sonographer.
Follow all departmental policies and procedures, including proper patient safety and high‑level disinfection policies.
Provide excellent patient‑focused customer service, communicate clearly with patients, and handle telephone calls professionally.
Maintain equipment uptime, keep exam rooms clean and ready for use, and assist with vendor management to minimize cost impact to the hospital.
Operate electronic systems such as PACS, RIS, Epic, and other departmental and hospital systems efficiently.
Document all required information accurately, including requisition forms, study findings, and billing information in compliance with hospital/department requirements.
Participate in 24/7 coverage as needed, including overtime and shift changes to meet department demands.
Education Associate's degree (or equivalent from a two‑year college) in diagnostic medical sonography or a certificate program.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification in OB, AB, or RVT.
Accreditation must be attained prior to hire (unless for OB/GYN, for which one year of training is sufficient).
Experience Experience in a related clinical area is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Solid knowledge of ultrasound principles, procedures, and equipment operation and maintenance.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, coworkers, students, and physicians.
